Day 1 - let's get started.

Day 1:  Free Tierazon Fractal Tutorials: START

I do not pretend to be an expert.  I have been using this free progam, Tierazon, since about 2007.  I have learned a lot along the way.

You can download the FREE program at: http://fractalarts.com/ASF/Tutor1.html  (He does a lot of different programs.  He has a lot of information.  Read below to see what I’ve learned.

Beginning Mandelbrot:  It’s ugly, but it makes beautiful things with different filters.

It's funny how something so uninteresting can be turned into a marvelous piece of art to use to your hearts content!  See an example below.  I started with the Mandelbrot above, and the small picture was my next step.  From there, I did several effects, and ended up with the larger picture.  It's marvelous!

There is so much to learn in this program.  I am still experimenting and learning, and perhaps YOU WISH TO LEARN this program, too.  If so, this site is for you.

Here are some things I've learned already.

Zooming in:  REMEMBER: YOUR PICTURES WILL BE DIFFERENT DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU APPLY THE ZOOM.

DON’T USE UNDO.  If you choose a function, and you don’t like it, just go back to the previous setting.

ERROR:  Sometimes, you’ll apply an option or filter and you get these awful lines that look nothing like a fractal.  Just right click on the picture; choose XY size and ok, and the fractal will appear.
The Mandelbrot is very small.  Right click on picture, choose XY size and one of the options under there.  If you use the color box, your picture must be reduced to 320 x 240 to get it to work.  After you play with it, you can resize your picture.  Always choose OK to make your selection stick.
I always resize my pictures at the beginning:  to 877 x 849 because that is the size for FaceBook.

Top Menu Bar for filters.

You can start with Draw (lots of dropdowns), Filters1, filters2 or filters3 first.  It’s up to you.  BUT, BEFORE YOU CAN USE FD OPTIONS, YOU MUST USE FILTERS3 PREVIOUS TO USING IT.
When you get to Dimension Variant in the dropdown list, I’ve found the FD Options no longer works.
I do not use Convolve, View, or Window.

This is the sidebar.  The top one is new Mandelbrot; that ugly starting item.

The second is folder.

Disk is the third, and I don’t use it.

That red squiggly thing is used to make a new picture (Julia).  You would surround your picture and click it.  It can’t be over-used.  I prefer to right click, choose Unique Dialogue Editor, and just click either n-set or m-set instead.  Works great.

Not sure of the next button.

Magnify is what you click after choosing the area you want to zoom in on.  If you don’t like what you see, you can choose an area on your canvas going up, down, right or left OFF the canvas to move around.  To lessen the zoom, right click and choose, fractal parameters.  See Magnif?  Take off the first number or two to the left of the number, and hit ok, and it will reduce.

M-set is defaulted to 128, but setting it lower takes a lot of noise out of your picture. Play with it.  Bailout’s default if 4, but you can take it down to 1.  Play with Julia X or Y.  Bay Factor 1 and 2, as well as Stalks and Bubbles can be fun, too.

The double envelopes will take your current canvas and duplicate it, so you can choose multi-places to zoom in on the same pic.  Remember to rename each as it will reset to Jungle.  Click it again to turn it off.

How I name my items / most of the time:  1-170621 would be a folder.  The first 1 means what fractal session I’m doing now.  Sometimes I start new fractals in the same day.  The 2nd series would start with 2-.  17 is for the year: 2017.  06 is for June.  21 is the day.  I place my fractals inside the folders.  1-170621-1; the last 1 at the end is my first fractal to save; then 2, 3… etc.

Make sure you go through the tutorial at Amazing Seattle Fractals where you picked up the program.  He’s amazing!

Formula’s:  check out some of his formulas and then play around.  Make a sheet and note what formulas work and ones that don’t.

If you draw a box and it doesn’t cover where you want, you can move the box.  If you want to start again, just click outside the box and you’ll have a blank canvas with picture so you can redraw your box.  Remember; you may go off the page, too.

UPDATE:  Fractals inside Tierazon with their counter part allow you to pull up any fractal and start from there to go on and create new things.  Keep all the files (which are 2) for each fractal.

This is just some of what I've learned.  I'm sure I've forgotten some, but I will updating the info in the tutorial I'm doing at the time.

Good luck, and feel free to leave project-related comments below.

I am aiming to post on Monday, and Thursday!

Please feel free to share any tidbits you learn when you play in Tierazon!
